To strategize or not to strategize, is that the question?
“Strategy” or “strategic” have become buzz words in any industry, elevating any word they precede to a new level of importance. Do you have a “plan” or a “strategic plan”, are you working on your “objectives” or on “strategic objectives”?
Yet, it is surprising to see how many organizations don’t have a clear understanding of the implications of not having a clear strategy for their business.
A strategic plan clarifies the vision, mission and values of the company and determines the goals and objectives that are required to support them. As a second component, the organizational strategy flows from the strategic plan and will specify how to grow the business, how to satisfy customers, how to manage the organization etc.
Without these major building blocks, companies drift like rudderless vessels in the ocean, hoping to achieve favorable results. This brings to mind the quote from Benjamin Franklin: “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.
